I’m writing this from a coffee shop. The F.I.R.E. movement, which stands for Financial Independence Retire Early, would have something to say about that. The philosophy is built around aggressive saving and cutting expenses to the bone so you can retire decades earlier than most. And one of its most common pieces of advice is simple. My daughters argue sometimes. Nothing serious, just the normal back and forth between two sisters figuring out how to share the same space. One of them will come find me or my wife. “Daddy, she’s bothering me.” “I’m the only one cleaning up.” The instinct as a parent is to jump in, take a side, fix it. But my wife has a motto we both live by. You two figure it out. If I have to get involved you’re both in trouble.

Sometimes the best financial advice comes from an unexpected conversation.
Back in 2023 I was talking with a financial influencer I respected and he said something that stuck with me. Open custodial accounts for your kids. I did a little research that same day and by the end of it the accounts were open.

Hi Reader At some point most investors ask themselves the same question. Did I miss my window? There have been multiple times I’ve researched a company I believed in, talked myself out of buying it, and watched it take off without me. Those moments always sting, and have made me feel like I was behind.
